I am studying the moment people experience finding a solution to an intriguing and previously unsolvable problem. Since there seems to be a tradition and a tendency to shout out 鈥淓ureka鈥 or 鈥淎ha鈥 whenever certain types of problems are solved, this is usually called the 鈥淓ureka! effect鈥 or 鈥淎ha moment鈥.

I am examining the divergent processes of creative thought in unconscious problem solving. This project includes observations of and interviews with practitioners from different problem solving domains in order to design an more controlled experiment focussing on the unconscious aspects of problem solving.
