Academic Lead Role Descriptor – Placement Development Team
Responsible to Associate Head of School for Practice Placements
Liaison with: Practice; students; staff within the programme and other programmes within the school, compliance, audit and placement administration colleagues, as well as regionally and nationally, as appropriate.
Student responsibility:
- Co-ordinate/contribute to preparation and support of students to optimise learning opportunities during placements; this will include briefing and debriefing of students as appropriate
- Review with Placement Provider student evaluation on a minimum of a quarterly basis and investigate/ resolve/ escalate concerns as required
Practice Assessor, Practice Supervisor and Academic Assessor (PA/PS/AA) responsibility:
- Co-organise preparation/update sessions in line with professional body requirements – this may take the form of contributing to central provision or specific local activities
- Ensure sufficient sessions are delivered to ensure appropriate numbers of ‘active’ PA and PS are available to support student capacity
- Support and advise Placement Provider staff in fulfilling their roles as PA and PS as required
- Support Placement Provider staff in embedding the principles of SSSA and NMC supernumerary status
- Support and advise academic colleagues in fulfilling their role of Academic Assessor as required
Register of PA and PS responsibility:
- To liaise with Placement Providers in relation to maintaining live registers of PA and PS, identifying deficits and operationalising action plans
Register of placements responsibility:
- To strategically support existing Placement Providers in supporting student learners
- Liaise when necessary with Placement Providers, Education Co-ordinators, service managers, Placement Development Teams or their representatives, including attending meetings
- Act on CQC concerns in collaboration with the AHOS Practice Placements
- Identify and contribute to the development of new placements within existing Placement Providers and explore new external potential
Audits responsibility:
- Review educational audits with Placement providers quarterly or as need arises, developing an action plan where required
- Support Placement Provider staff in creating innovative solutions to maximise placement capacity
- Undertake audits of new placements in collaboration with practice colleagues and professional services staff
- Contribute to ongoing monitoring of placements requiring deactivation or reactivation in collaboration with the AHOS Practice Placements
Untoward incidents responsibility:
- Follow the protocols for identifying and reporting incidents or concerns involving students on placement, in line with the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ ‘Placement Incidents and Concerns Policy’ and the procedures and policies of the Placement Provider
